Chapter Chair's June 2013 Note
Lacey Willard, Esq --- CBRE, Inc.---- USGBC FGC Chapter Chair
The annual Green Bus Tour held in the Tampa Bay Branch was a sold out success! The USGBC partnered with BOMA to visit the Oldsmar Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant, the Historic Oldsmar Bank Building – a renovated 1918 Silver Certified building, and the University of Tampa Health and Wellness Center – another Silver Certified. Amazingly, Oldsmar salvaged 161 tons of material from construction of the historic building, including reuse of these bricks from original façade. Equally amazing is the extent of student participation in the sustainability committees at the University of Tampa.
With summer commencing, if you are looking to take your own tour to honor the many sustainable accomplishments of our peers in the state, our members and their firms or even families may be interested in touring the below recently recognized sites:
Histor
ic Gainesville Depot: One of the City’s oldest, most cherished buildings, the Depot received an “Outstanding” recognition by the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, Inc. Nationally acclaimed architect Bert Bender of Bender and Associates Architects, P.A., developed the “green” design to rehabilitate the 1860s era train depot to its original splendor. LEED Gold Certification is pending!
Miami Design District: The second and newest LEED ND project in the state – and first ND with primary retail usage in the US – received Gold Certification in May. Bordered by 36th and 42nd Streets on the south and north, and Federal Highway and Miami Avenue on the east and west, this trendy part of Miami is about to experience a large upswing in the real estate market.
